Jessie Carpenter, Brian Burton, and Courtney Tucker, childhood friends, drew inspiration from Old Hillside, the oldest Historically Black high school in Durham, NC, and founded a whiskey in its honor. Their passion for bourbon and horse racing led to creating a brand commemorating the success of black jockeys before segregation.
