Iwai Tradition Sherry Cask Finish Japanese Whisky
This limited release expression from Mars Shinshu sees its beloved, malt-driven Iwai Tradition finished for nearly a full year in Pedro Ximénez casks, a style of sherry prized for its concentrated sugars and robust, oxidized fruit notes.
Iwai Tradition Sherry Cask Whisky is a blended whisky produced by Mars Shinshu Distillery in Nagano, Japan. Distilled from 70% malted barley and 30% corn, this non-age statement whisky was aged in ex-bourbon, sherry, and wine casks before being finished for over 11 months in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. The resulting spirit displays aromas of brown sugar, cacao, and black cherry with a fruity and confectionary palate of dried apricot, lemon poppyseed cake, orange peel, and nutmeg. The Pedro Ximénez finishing casks provide an influence indicative of the prized sherry’s concentrated sugars and robust, oxidized fruit notes.
