Mendocino Pinot Noir - medium bodied, supple tannin, sandalwood, baking spice

From the winemaker, Noel:

I found a vineyard with a special clone of Pinot Noir. This clone is from one of the most famous vineyards in the world, the La Tache vineyard. Wow, when I saw that I was going to get the chance to work with a grape clone of a wine I've only had once, I jumped at it. Pinot Noir is another wine that's very hard to make great, good, sure, but great, not so much. So where does this fit? It's soft and supple, there's fruit, but it's not bold or upfront, it's more nuanced than that. There's also some earth, like fresh compost. I find it pretty and delicious, not great, not yet, but I will get more opportunities to work with this fruit again, I'm sure. Oh, what was that wine I had once? It was a DRC La Tache 1969!
