Mendocino Carignan - brambly wild berries, light and fresh, lifted and fruity
From the winemaker, Noel:
The fruit was harvested early in September. The vineyard was a new find for me. It's planted deep on a hillside just off the 101 freeway. We got lost getting there. It was a bit eerie, as the land seemed carved out as more of a compound than a vineyard. It had originally been settled in the 50s by the grower's family. The patriarch had bought it with the intention of having livable spaces for the family and for them to be able to eat from the land. They had at one time kept sheep, chickens, and pigs, but long ago gave up. Overall, the visit was a good one. The people were pleasant and genuine. Never judge a book by its cover, I guess. The wine's good too, fresh, crunchy, red fruited and clean. Chill and enjoy. o/o
