Distillerie Du Peyrat Organic Cognac

A surprisingly complex six-year-old, from a humble, 100% organic blend of Fin Bois, Bon Bois and a small amount of Petite Champagne. On the nose, intriguing, atypical green aromas of fresh-cut flowers, fennel, acacia and pear skin. In the mouth, it’s brisk and lively, featuring under ripe pear and fresh rainwater, with gravelly minerality on the finish. Excellent value for a young Cognac that essentially falls in the VS-VSOP range.

A rather young family distillery by France standards starting in the 1920’. The name comes from the village Le Peyrat, which is 10 kilometers away from the city of Cognac. In the 1990’s Jean-Francois was a pioneer for organic wine growing in the Cognac region, so turned his focus to the production of Organic Cognacs.

Aromas are redolent of ripe juicy apricots with hints of tropical fruit. Rich and sweet in the mouth, flavors are pristine and focused with stone fruit, white tea and fresh flowers shining through. Smooth and balanced. Excellent, highly recommended.
